Blodeuwedd's name is Celtic, and means Wild Flower Maiden or Flower Face. Blodeuwedd is the Welsh Goddess of Spring, created by magicians from herbal blossoms to be the beautiful wife of Lleu, son of Arianrhod. Blodeuwedd, unable to accept the role given to her - that of obedient serving wife, fell in love with Gronwr and plotted to do away with Lleu. Essential oil of Orange Flower Blossom or Neroli is extracted from the fragrant blossoms of the bitter orange tree, a small evergreen tree growing in France and Tunisia.
Orange Blossom trees originated in South East Asia. Orange blossom trees, via Arabian traders, began to be grown in Africa, Syria and Arabia and, from there, the Mediterranean. Orange Blossom trees yield bitter oranges, suitable for making marmalade.
Orange Flower Water History
Orange Flower Water has been used for two thousand years as a natural skincare product. Orange Flower Water and the pure, essential oil of Orange Blossom was introduced to high society by the Countess of Nerola, the fifteenth century Italian princess, Anne-Marie de la Tremoille. Orange blossom is actually named Neroli after the Countess of Nerola. The Countess used Neroli oil extensively, particularly for scenting her bathwater and gloves.
